Celebrating the Slice of Africa
If you mark the locations of our store across Africa, and squint your eyes hard enough, you can see the outline of a pizza slice. This Slice of Africa, as the trip was dubbed, will be one that goes down in the Pizza Hut Africa history books. We have visited 14 cities, across 12 countries, traveling over 20 000 kms to launch the African Literacy Project. And to rally colleagues, team members, and partners from across the continent around a single mission – literacy in Africa – is something we are unbelievably proud of. Thank you, thank you, and thank you again.
The Grand Finale in Durban
What better place to host the final Slice of Africa event than on a sunny day, in Florida Rd, Durban. If there is one thing that can be said about our team in Durban, it’s that they know how to put on a show. The kids kicked things off by treating us to some traditional Zulu dancing. And they had quite the audience, with the likes of AmaZulu FC, Dolphins Cricket team players, Distruction Boys and Nocxy Mabika. Some big names, for a big celebration, to conclude a BIG journey.
The African Literacy Project has only began
Epic as it was, the Slice of Africa is only the beginning of our journey. We have made our mission clear: eradicate illiteracy in Africa. We have caught the attention of media and publications across the continent. We have handed out hundreds of Red Reading Boxes to excited and enthusiastic young learners. We’ve read. We’ve laughed. We’ve reflected. And last but not least, we have opened donations in every one of our countries. So what comes next, and how big of an impact we will have, is up to you. It’s up to you to #GiveOpportunity through donations in store, and online. Every single cent we gather, will go toward creating Red Reading Boxes in the country it came from.
The fact that 280 million people in Africa cannot read is a daunting number. But from what we’ve seen on the Slice of Africa, the commitment, passion, and care, we have no doubt that together we will make a massive impact.
Share this post, follow the journey, make a donation, and let’s get Africa reading!
